Halloween is a scary Halloween for more reasons than the ghouls and goblins. Safety is typically the biggest concern for parents of trick-or-treaters. Young kids start roaming the streets pretty early, so even if you don’t have little one’s at home, you should begin to think about decorating in the safest manner possible. Here are some ideas.

 

Light up the walkway: apartments can be dark once the sun sets. Purchase a box (or two) of orange Christmas lights and decorate the walkway leading up to your door. The extra added light will stop people from tripping over objects and make them feel much safer knocking on a stranger’s door.

 

Wrapped candy: giving unwrapped candy like licorice or cupcakes can make parents a bit uncomfortable. Yes, most of us have the best intention, but there are millions of urban legends about razor blades in candy that make every pause. So don’t be fancy and just pass out wrapped candy.

 

Hide pets: this is both for the pet and trick-or-treaters. You wouldn’t want your dog to bite someone and you definitely don’t want your beloved animal to be scared by all the commotion and constant action at your door.
